What youâre seeing is actually pretty commonâand yeah, itâs unsettling đ
Those tiny white things are most likely fruit fly larvae (often from a species called Spotted Wing Drosophila). They lay eggs inside soft fruits like strawberries, and the larvae grow inside without you noticing.
So⊠should you throw them away?
đ Good news:
Theyâre not dangerous to eat. From a health standpoint, the berries are generally still safe.
đ But realistically:
- If it grosses you out (which is totally normal), just throw them away.
- If youâre okay with it, you can rinse them really well and remove anything visible, then eat them.
Why did they come out?
The salt water basically forces the larvae out of the fruit, so youâre just seeing what was already there.
